Metro Vancouver neighbourhood
A small waterfront village at the south end of the city on the Fraser River, built around Barnston View Road and Fraser Way. Independent cafés and shops sit at street level under townhouses and low-rise apartments, with the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery, the South Bonson Community Centre and the river dike trail all within a few minutes' walk.
Osprey Village is the one part of Pitt Meadows that was designed to be walked around. It sits at the very south of the city where Harris Road runs out at the Fraser, and the Official Community Plan protects it with its own Village land use designation and a development permit area naming Barnston View Road as a community commercial center for the south of Pitt Meadows. The result is a compact block of shopfronts under housing rather than a strip mall with a car park in front.
What is here is small and mostly independent: coffee, food, a few services, and neighbors using them. The South Bonson Community Centre, a LEED Gold building that also houses the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery, anchors the north side. The dike path along the Fraser starts at the end of the street, which is why the village is busier on a dry Saturday morning than its size suggests.
