LabTest Certification Inc. is a third-party testing, inspection and certification body whose head office in Delta is described on its site as roughly 25 minutes from Vancouver. Despite the name, this is a product-safety lab rather than a medical testing lab: what comes through the door is appliances, electronics and industrial equipment. Listed services include product testing, inspection and certification, R&D testing, test witnessing, field evaluations, Preliminary Design Review, file transfer, management systems services and training programs delivered online and in person. Clients are commercial rather than residential: manufacturers seeking Canadian, U.S. or international product approvals. Scope defines any given project. A battery pack run to UL 1642, UL 2054, CSA C22.2 No. 62133-1 and 62133-2, ANSI/CAN/UL 1973 and UN/DOT 38.3 is a different job from an environmental sequence of temperature and humidity, salt spray, blowing sand and dust, solar radiation, altitude, IP rating, and shock and vibration. Samples for that bench work are sent or brought in to the lab. Equipment in limited quantities or of a specialized kind takes a different route: on-site field evaluations follow CSA SPE-1000, CSA SPE-3000 and CAN/CSA-B149.3 in Canada and NFPA 790 and 791 in the United States.
